Microwave Exhaust
Our microwave is a combo unit and sits above the stove. It exhausts the gases from the gas stove to the outside.

Final Heating - Cooling Install
Our Furnace gets hooked up to the new air conditioner and outside air inlets and exhausts are installed.

Basement Tiling
First, we level the concrete floor by "drypacking" and then use mortar to install our 16" Tiles

Flooring Goes In
Bamboo flooring in "expresso" colour gets installed. After we cover it in paper and thin plywood to prevent damage during the rest of the work.

Porch Deck Waterproofing
This process takes 4 layers of material. Rigid foam insulation, roofing felt, rubberized membrane and "liquid" roofing. Our roofer, Dallas, explains.

New Roof
Our pitched roof is in good shape, but we want to change the colour. The back side and the flat roof are fairly new and in good shape so we'll leave them.

Plastering
The drywallers have applied 2 coats of plaster. They'll decide tomorrow if it needs another thin coat, then we can start painting.

More Deck Preparation
First, we insulate and apply building wrap under the re-framed step-out to the porch. Then we beef up the framing to add the metal "boots" that will hold the posts and railings around the new deck.

Bay Windows In
After cladding the framing with plywood and covering with building wrap, we're ready to install our windows.

New Windows Arrive
Our new Energy Star rated windows finally arrived. They get installed with insulation foam, which expands between the bricks and the window frame to hold everything securely in place.

New Car $850
We found some relics of past Toronto Life - 1915, 16 Newspapers featuring car ads and news from the Great War; a level and a brush.

2nd Floor Porch Deck
We've got our permit to add a walkout deck over the front porch. First step is to build a solid floor, then we'll make it waterproof and add a floating deck.

Drywalling Starts
Now that the electrical and other mechanicals are in and approved, we've added the insulation and vapour barrier. We hired drywallers and tapers to speed things up.

Flat Roof Changes
Because we added an additional plumbing stack and bathroom vent we had to make a few changes in the roof.

Vapour Barrier
Once the fiberglass insulation is installed the exterior walls and ceiling are covered with plastic sheeting to prevent heat loss.
